Clive Evans | Club Statement
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Clive Evans, a much-loved and respected member of our back-room staff, who left us Sunday morning (25/08/2024). Clive was not just a passionate supporter and volunteer at Stapenhill Football Club - he was a vital part of our community who selflessly dedicated his time and energy to help the team. His fantastic sense of humour and commitment to our success will be sorely missed by everyone at the club.
Clive was a massive Wolves fan but also followed Stapenhill from a young age. He first started out as a supporter, attending every game home and away, except when Wolves were playing at home. Clive’s passion for the club quickly grew, and he began helping with tasks like getting the kits and water bottles ready for the lads before matches. He continued doing the kits this season, even encouraging others to join him in this role. Clive was someone who wouldn’t think twice about lending a hand, whether it was helping maintain the ground or assisting with other tasks around the club. His infectious personality made an impression on everyone he met, and his sense of humour was always present, especially when banter was flowing after games with players and supporters.
Beyond football, Clive had a rich sporting life. He played bowls for Stapenhill Gardens before the team relocated to the football club following the redevelopment of their original site. He also loved playing darts, dominoes, and crib at several pubs and clubs around the area. His family shared that being at the football club was his happy place, and they take some solace in knowing he was there when he was first taken ill.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Nigel, Kev and Jake who performed CPR on Clive, the volunteers who acted with great professionalism and to the emergency services for their exceptionally swift response. The football community has once again shown its strength in unity during times of crisis. We are deeply thankful for the respectful and compassionate actions of the match officials and our opponents on Saturday, Pershore, and on Monday, Smethwick Rangers.
Lastly, we are incredibly proud of our players, management team, volunteers, and supporters who came together in such difficult circumstances to produce performances that Clive would have been proud of. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the heart of Stapenhill Football Club.
